IFTTT update: Journal daily with Day One + IFTTT

What if you could digitally log your life in one app? Those cute things your kids do. Your dream-worthy Instagram vacation pics. The never-ending to-do lists. You know, all the important things you just don’t have time to write down.

Meet Day One. It combines a beautifully designed daily log, activity log, and more in a journaling app to capture life moments. Day One integrated with IFTTT to help you quickly store memories and fleeting ideas together. It’s a personal journal and repository for your private data and innermost thoughts. Even non-writers will enjoy the brevity of digital journaling.

Essentially, it’s a digital scrapbook, journal, and storage gem.

With Day One and IFTTT together, you’ll rest easy knowing your ongoing to-do list is somewhere safe. Day One Applets save your favorite content such as Tweets, Google Calendar events, tagged Facebook photos, your location, Fitbit summaries, and more.

Forget your bookmarks tab. Get ready to journal everything.

Save the day

Day One lets you capture every moment as you live it — whether it’s your son’s baseball game or your favorite Tweets.

With Applets, you don’t have to scroll through thousands of pics to find the baseball team’s celebratory happy dance. Create a photo log and store it. It’s easy like Sunday mornings.

Don’t run from rain clouds

Need to prep for your morning run? These Applets help you decide when to lace up those sneakers. Follow the weather’s forecast every day — allowing you to focus on your run without dodging raindrops. Training for a marathon? Log your run times to track your best time.

Take note

Stop worrying about losing paper to-do lists. Create a tag for your list, and search for it later when needed. Goodbye paper piles.

Why Google Photos is shit!

After happily using google photos for the free backup storage for many years all recent updates to the apps have caused no end of problems.

  1. Uploads using the free option have now started using up storage limits for no reason - maybe this is a good ploy to force people to purchase storage.
  2. The desktop app is forever syncing and when it starts again causes multiple duplicate photos
  3. There is no way to identify duplicate photos online
  4. Woke up today to find that photos older than a year or two are now in the bin!
  5. You can only restore 1500 photos at a time! - SERIOUSLY!
If you want to backup your photos use local storage first and then use cloud storage as an offsite backup to that instead.

Any stay the hell away from Google Photos as it is far from reliable!

IFTTT update: Window shades, finance tools, home security, & more — new on IFTTT

Summer has been sizzling at IFTTT HQ, but we aren’t just talking about 🌭 and 🏖. In between tanning sessions, we’ve been working with exceptional companies and products to bring you new services and Applets that keep you connected to all your favorite tech. So, take a look at the latest and let us know what you think.

So bright you gotta wear shades

Both Automate Shades and Connector Applets give you better control over the internet connected shades in your home, so you can lower them to block out the heat of the day or raise them to enjoy the sunset, all without leaving the comfort of your couch.

Working hard for the money

Whether you’re saving up for a last-minute beach vacation or something a bit closer to home, check out ING Australia and Monzo’s new tools to help you meet your finance goals.

There’s no place like home

So let’s keep it safe and secure while you’re out of town! M2M Services and LifeShield Applets provide peace of mind while you’re away, so you can focus on the important things. Like getting more umbrella drinks.

For some of us, there’s nothing quite like sleeping in your own bed after a big adventure. For others? Adjusting to life after vacation can be a bit of a bummer 😑.  Either way, we have you covered. Hive View’s indoor video monitoring kept you up-to-date on the hijinks your pets (or teenagers!) got up to while you were away, so there should be no big surprises. And new Applets from Sengled, MicroBot Push, MicroBot Sense, VeSync, and MobiLinc will help you get your home’s temperature, lighting, music, and more dialed in so reentry is as painless as possible.

Keep in touch

That’s a wrap for now! Let us know what you think of these new tools. Or, if you’d like to be notified ASAP whenever something new is published, use the Applets below to receive notifications.
